MEPs welcome tighter EU sanctions against Iran, stress on supporting Iranian Resistance

In a conference held by the Friends of Free Iran Parliamentary Groups in the European Parliament Headquarters in Brussels, EP Vice President Alejo Vidal Quadras, MEP Struan Stevenson, Chair of the Friends of a Free Iran Parliamentary Group and MEP Tunne Kelam welcomed increasing European Union sanctions tightening the noose on Iran. The leading MEPs also called for further isolation of this anti-human regime and stressed on support for the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran and the Iranian Resistance.

The Free Iran Parliamentary Group, having the support of over 200 MEPs from various political groups, issued a statement on this conference emphasizing on the need to cancel the planned late October visit of various MEPs to Iran under the mullahs’ dictatorship, describing such a trip as a scandal. In this conference, EU VP Alejo Vidal Quadras said we welcome the recent increase in EU sanctions as a major step to stop Iran’s nuclear program. Since Iran’s imports and exports are controlled by the Revolutionary Guards, continuing economic relations with this regime will serve as in favor of the nuclear program and human rights violations, he added.
The regime ruling Iran has proven during the past 30 years it is not seeking change, the EP Vice President continued. We remember the lack of a firm policy lead to appeasement with this regime and the main opposition, PMOI, was wrongly placed on the terrorist list for many years, he continued.
Even when the National Council of Resistance of Iran revealed clandestine nuclear facilities in Iran, we in the West negotiated and provided further incentives to the mullahs instead of imposing sanctions, Quadras said, adding these are measures that we in Europe cannot be proud of.
The European Parliament Vice President stressed on the need to cancel the trip of various MEPs to Iran under the mullahs’ rule, emphasizing mistakes of the past must make us more careful in our relations with this regime.
We hope to witness the establishment of peace and stability in the region, he said, adding we believe the only path towards this objective is to send a united message, similar to the message sent by our minister in adopting sanctions against Iran, in support of Iran’s democratic opposition.
Struan Stevenson, Chairman of Friends of Free Iran intergroup in European Parliament, said he has seen a copy of a letter today from the Islamic republic to Tarja Cronberg, head of EP Delegation for Relations with Iran. This letter was signed by Kazem Jalali, head of the Iranian regime Majlis’ Relations with EP, and he is the person that they are to meet. I have seen his websites, he has posted pictures of himself during his membership in the suppressive Bassij force and the IRGC, and he is proud of it, Stevenson added.
One of the mullahs had appointed him as the chief of the universities’ discipline committee to suppress students with different beliefs, and to quell the voice of dissident students. Jalali is also head of the Friendship Group with the Syrian regime and Bashar Assad, he continued.
Currently, the Iranian regime is ranked number one in executions in the world. Many of these executions are carried out in public. They execute an average of 2 individuals per day, meaning over 600 per year. They lift many of the prisoners with cranes in public squares and suffocate them, Stevenson stressed.
The last time a delegation from the EP traveled to Iran, on the same day that they reached Tehran, as an insult to our delegation, they carried out a public hanging and showed this is their treatment of political dissidents in Iran, he continued.
There is no doubt that currently the control of neighboring country Iraq is almost in the hands of the Iranian regime. The regional power of such a regime is deadly and it’s acquirement of a nuclear weapon is catastrophic.
This murderous regime is the world’s most dangerous regime today, causing the most instability in the region and also against world peace. That is why, in order to counter the regime with the toughest sanctions possible and by encouraging the people to rise and throw out the corrupt mullahs, we must do everything we can, Stevenson added.
The visit of a number of representatives from Iran under the rule of the mullahs is similar to the visit of a friendship delegation from Berlin during Hitler’s rule, he continued.

European Parliament delegation’s visit to Tehran is considered as complicity with religious fascism in its crimes and is condemned by Iranian people

EP should avoid this visit and not allow its prestige and credit to be distorted
Iranian Resistance condemns scheduled visit of a number of European Parliament members to Iran under mullahs’ rule, and asks EP president to prevent their visit and not to allow them to distort EP’s prestige and credit by supporting the most ruthless contemporary dictatorship.
The motivation behind such a visit is neither a delusion about the mullahs’ regime’s capacity to become moderate, nor even due to appeasement policy in general, but before anything else, the incentive is certain personal, party, or business interests aimed at painting a pretty picture of religious fascism that in addition to killing Iranian people, is deeply involved in massacre of people in Syria, Iraq, Lebanon and Palestine, and is doing its outmost to achieve nuclear bomb.
Through such visits, these individuals and their behind-the-scene circles vainly attempt to prevent definite overthrow of this regime on which they have made immense economic and political investments.
This visit is being made at a time that only few days have passed since the widespread demonstration of Bazaar merchants and people in Tehran chanting “Death to dictator”, and while gallows continue to be prepared in prisons and in every city for collective executions of prisoners aimed to intensify atmosphere of intimidation in the society.
The leaders of mullahs’ regime should be brought to justice for their crimes against humanity and genocide, particularly in Iran, Syria and Iraq. Shaking hands with them by any party is condemned by the people of Iran and is considered as complicity in these crimes. Such visits will only benefit the regime to intensify repression, to continue its ominous nuclear weapon project, and to export terrorism and fundamentalism.
